PLANE offers a response to Chicago's urban landscape, architecture and events surrounding the national election which took place during my residency in 2008. A singular floating plane of The Chicago Tribune newspapers configured in a grid of approximately 9m x 10m confronts the visitor at eye-level and divides the space into light and shadow. In order to explore the space below the plane one must stoop under it, necessitating an uncomfortable physicality but also bringing relief from the intense light above the surface.
