Piran #2: Salt
Installation: 1,672 plastic cups, saltwater, salt
Cups filled with sea water and salt reflect the materials found on site as well as the town of Piran's ruling elements – sea, salt, and religion. The circular configuration is based on the molecular structure of salt and reflects the unique form of the crosses on top of the historic Venetian town’s churches. Nestled between the sea and the Town Centre, the work is deliberately situated at the end of a road with views towards St. George’s Cathedral (the patron saint of salt) and can be viewed from high above along a main street. In collaboration with Valerie Dempsey.
